Creightons, long the name behind the name, have started their own range.
Used with: Gillette Silver Blue (3rd shave)
The instructions don’t suggest this is to be used with a brush, but it has the same ingredients as their Groomed range, which does, so I went for it. I didn’t use a lot of cream and it took a bit of work to get it going but it lathered fine with my boar brush. Slickness didn’t blow me away, being fairly poor on the early passes, but I only picked up a couple of tiny nicks and at least one of those was re-opening a prior wound. Aside from my usual trouble-spots, my neck was good. My face was smooth WTG. ATG there was some resistance but no real roughness. Post shave feel was good. Not sure how to describe the fragrance except to say it’s quite masculine. Pleasant though. A good shave.
Used with: Gillette Wilkinson Sword (3rd shave)
I applied what I thought was the right amount of cream to my synthetic brush and worked up a lather. I wasn’t sure I had enough to start with, it didn’t explode with lather and I had to work it a fair amount to get enough, but I needn’t have worried as I had plenty for my usual routine. I wasn’t impressed by the slickness, but I only picked up a couple of tiny nicks, which were sorted by cold water. Aside from the usual trouble-spots, my neck was pretty good. No problems WTG on my face. Nowhere made it to BBS ATG, but there was only some resistance, no actual roughness. Post shave feel was okay, not particularly soft or hydrated. They don’t describe the fragrance anywhere I could find, but I would have said slightly floral. It’s not bad, but won’t blow your skirt up. A good shave.
Used with: Gillette Ultra Thin (2nd shave)
I squeezed an amount onto my synthetic brush. It takes some effort to squeeze it out of the tube. I had to add a little water, but once I did the lather exploded. Slickness felt good and I only picked up a single tiny nick, which sealed itself before I finished. Aside from some minor roughness in my usual trouble-spots, my neck was very good. No problems WTG on my face. ATG there was some resistance but no roughness. My chin flirted with BBS. Post shave feel was soft but dry. I picked up the fragrance most of the way through. Not unpleasant but the slightly floral notes don’t do it for me. A very good shave.
Used with: Personna Platinum (4th shave)
I squeezed a good amount onto my badger brush and worked it up, it easily generated plenty of lather, though I was underwhelmed by the quality. Slickness felt good but it didn’t prevent me picking up a few nicks. Most were sealed by cold water but at least one persisted on. My neck was a little raw, and yet didn’t feel very close. I had some roughness, but only in the usual trouble-spots. WTG my face was good. ATG there was a little resistance but no real roughness. Post shave feel was okay. I don’t recall the fragrance at all. Considering I had a blood bath of a previous shave, so this wasn’t a bad shave.
Used with: Gillette 7 O’Clock Super Platinum (2nd shave)
I added a decent amount of cream to my synthetic brush and it generated plenty of lather once I added a little water. Slickness felt good. I did pick up a few tiny nicks but these either sealed themselves or cold water did. My neck felt very good, with the only hints of roughness were limited to the usual trouble-spots. WTG my face felt good. ATG there was a little resistance but no roughness. Post shave feel was very good. I picked up the fragrance when I first applied lather but don’t recall it after that. A very good shave.
Creightons are a British company that has long produced shaving products for other names. Indeed, they have several of their own brands, from Groomed to those like St James of London and The Real Shaving Co. that they have now sold on. They’ve obviously decided it was time to start making things under their own name.
I treated this as I would any lathering cream, despite the instructions implying it was brushless. I found it produced good lather when used with a brush.
Looking back, it provided me with good shaves, although the slickness and protection weren’t the best I’ve encountered — with nicks being picked up on most outings.
They don’t describe the fragrance anywhere, so I’m not sure what it’s supposed to be. I can only describe it as a mixed floral scent. Not unpleasant, but not something you’ll be hunting down a matching EDT for.
This is insanely cheap compared to most other creams, and, while it doesn’t match the top-tier products for performance, it provides a more than adequate experience.
