Geo F Trumper Eucris Shaving Cream

Launched in 1912, this fragrance has shown some staying power, but does it deserve it?

Used with: Derby Extra (2nd shave)

I had to strike a balance between getting enough out of the little pot to produce a good lather and not taking too much so I could use it a couple more times. I seemed to hit it as I had no problem producing a good lather, even using a little water to thin it out. The second pass did require a fair bit of work though. Slickness was good. I picked up a solitary nick that was sealed by cold water. My neck was pretty good, with fewer of the harsh patches than usual, although I still had a few rough areas on my jaw. Above that was nice and smooth. I had the odd stray hair in the nooks around my mouth, but that was all. Large areas were close to BBS, even ATG, while some made it over the top. The fragrance is hard to describe. Looking at the breakdown I’d say the oakmoss and the musk were the overriding scents. It’s heady and powerful. I smelt it all through the shave and it lingered well. Not sure I’d want it as an EdT as it’d overwhelm, it’s very much an old school masculine fragrance. A great shave.

Used with: Shark Super Chrome (4th shave)

Another shave preceded by a warm towel. I seemed to have plenty of cream, so scooped some out and was quickly able to build a good lather. I had plenty for the entire shave, though I did work it for the second pass. Slickness was very good and I didn’t pick up any nicks. My neck was very good, with none of the usual patches. My jaw had a couple though. Above that was nice and smooth. One nook around my mouth was patchy, but the rest was good. A couple of small patched made BBS ATG, but most didn’t quite. The fragrance was strong once again, with the darker scents prevailing. No problem picking it up through the shave and it lingered subtly. A good shave.

Used with: Polsilver Super Iridium (1st shave)

This was a bit unusual in that I had a wet shave the day before (Sunday), when I normally have an electric shave, so this had a smoother starting point. I scooped out as much as I could of what remained in the sample pot, which gave me plenty to build a good lather. Slickness was good once again and I didn’t pick up any nicks. In some places my neck was good, in others is felt rough. Part of my jaw definitely were, despite giving it special attention. My face was better, with some areas making it to BBS ATG. These were tempered with some rougher patches, mainly around my mouth, especially my top lip. Good strong smell throughout. I quite like it. I used some skin tonic afterwards, which obliterated the fragrance and left me with average post shave feel. A pretty good shave.

One thing you can say about this cream is you won’t have to hunt for the scent, it’s potent. This is one of the few products where I picked up the scent throughout the shave, and long afterwards. I doubt it’s for everyone as it’s very dark, with the powerful musk and oakmoss riding of everything else. I enjoyed it though. It wouldn’t matter if the performance wasn’t up to snuff, but I had no problems producing a good lather with excellent slickness. Post shave feel wasn’t its strongest virtue though. I still liked it and it would have scored higher except I knocked a point off for price. It also appears to only be available in a travel tube. I doubt the soap has the same potency, but is probably worth a try.
