Named after its own maker, you’d think this is an old product, but it’s actually quite new.
Used with: Super-Max Blue Diamond (1st shave)
I used my badger brush but I don’t think I had quite enough cream. It was okay to build a lather and I used a fair bit of water to thin it out, but later passes suffered for it. Slickness wasn’t as good as the previous GFT creams and I picked up a few nicks, though none serious. The blade tugged on the first pass. My neck had plenty of rough patches, as did my jawline. My face faired better, with the only patch around my mouth. Nowhere was particularly close though, not BBS that’s for sure. Post shave feel was very average. I found the fragrance very subtle. Even burying my nose in the pot didn’t really help. What I did get wasn’t bad, but didn’t drive me nuts either. An average shave.
Used with: Rapira Swedish Supersteel (3rd shave)
I used my boar brush this time, with a bit more cream and plenty of water to create a glossy lather. Slickness felt good this time and I didn’t pick up any nicks. The finish on my neck was good (compared to normal), with the only patches coming up by my jawline. My face was wonderfully smooth. Only the odd patch made BBS ATG though. Great post shave feel. Once again the fragrance was so low key you had to hunt for it. It’s pleasant enough, like a cologne almost, but hard to find. It’s nice enough, but not something to get you raving. A great shave.
Used with: Lord Platinum Class (2nd shave)
Back to my badger brush for this one and I emptied the small sample container, so I had plenty of product. Lather was easy enough to build, but I may have overdone it on the water. It still clogged my blade on the first pass, but seemed airy on the second and I got a bit of dissipation. Slickness felt okay but I picked up a handful of nicks, mainly on my neck, though these sealed themselves before I finished. I had the odd patch on my neck, plus some on my jawline. My face was smooth and pretty much roughness free. A few areas made it to BBS ATG but the majority just missed out. Still, very good shave (I didn’t expect that during the shave itself).
GFT has only been around since 2000/2001 so isn’t one of the older scents in the Trumper’s stable. It’s described as citrus, but I didn’t really get that. Although it did smell like a generic cologne, I had to hunt very hard to pick anything up at all (in both the cream and the hair and body wash sample I have). If you get the right amount of cream you can get a good result though, but I did find it didn’t provide the best shave experience, with lather having a tendency to go foamy on later passes, while the initial one was thick enough to clog my razor. Not bad, but not a great example of the range.
