Featuring a scent that has been around since 1902, this is another of the Trumper’s creams.
Used with: Bolzano Superinox (4th shave)
It only took a small amount of cream combined with my boar brush to get a good lather. Plenty for my usual range of passes and touch-ups. No tugging from the blade and slickness felt okay, but it didn’t prevent me picking up plenty of nicks. None were serious. My neck was pretty good, with the only roughness up near my jawline on one side. My face was pretty smooth, with the only roughness on my chin. A few places made it to BBS ATG though. Post shave feel was okay. I picked up the fragrance during the shave, although it wasn’t the strongest. It did linger subtly afterward. A pretty good shave.
Used with: Personna Med Prep (1st shave)
Again, I only used a small amount of cream, but I opted for my badger brush this time. No problems producing a good lather. Slickness was good and I only picked up a single nick, which was sealed by cold water. My neck had the occasional patch and the usual rough areas persisted on my jawline. Above that was good, with only a couple of small areas of roughness. Nowhere quite made it to BBS ATG though. Post shave feel was average, a little dry in fact. Again, I got a whiff of the fragrance as I built the lather but it soon vanished. It’s not unpleasant, but you have to hunt for it. A bit better than average.
Used with: Super-Max Stainless (3rd shave)
Emptying the small sample container, I quickly built a good lather with my badger brush. Slickness was average on the first pass, better on the second. The blade tugged impressively during the first pass, but I didn’t pick up any nicks. I spent a bit of extra time touching up but my neck still had a few rough spots and my jawline was also patchy, despite the extra attention. My face was smooth WTG, but not so much ATG. The finish wasn’t universally smooth but wasn’t bad. Post shave feel was average again. The scent, although staying in the background, did come through a bit better this time and I picked it up throughout the shave, it also seemed to linger a little afterward. A good shave.
Don’t let the name fool you, this doesn’t smell like leather, it isn’t supposed to. It’s a combination of musk, wood and spice tones. That’s if you can pick it up, because it’s so dialled down that I struggled to find it. If it were a sound you’d be left looking for the volume controls.
Other than that, it performed well enough, although slickness didn’t seem to be as good as previous creams. Post shave feel wasn’t so good either, but that could be down to my choice of post-shave treatment.
Works well enough but not one of my favourites from their range.
