Gillette’s 7 O’Clock blades are well known, and come in a variety of similarly named variants (distinguished by the colour of the packet).
1st blade > 1st shave
Real Shaving Co. Senstive cream
No nicks, but not a particularly close shave either. No irritation though.
1st blade > 2nd shave
Boots Cool Cologne Lather Shave Cream
Again, no nicks, but also not the smoothest finish I’ve had.
2nd blade > 1st shave
TOBS Jermyn Street Collection Shave Cream
Nice and smooth throughout, but I picked up a few significant nicks. Partly that was because I had to go over some areas several times in order to get a reasonable shave. That left a fairly patchy end result, with some very smooth areas, and some not quite as good. Not a bad shave though.
2nd blade > 2nd shave
Edwin Jagger Sandlewood Soap
The blade felt smooth throughout, and I only picked up a couple of small nicks this time. I also ended up with some irritation on my top lip. The end result felt a bit more consistent, but wasn’t particularly close. A solid shave, but an average one.
2nd blade > 3rd shave
Arko Shave Stick
No problem WTG, but when I switched to ATG it tugged and scraped on my neck. It wasn’t too bad, but did leave me with a few nicks. I didn’t feel I needed to do as much touching up this time. It did have a few rough patches as a result though. Still, a pretty good shave.
2nd blade > 4th shave
Mitchell’s Wool Fat Shaving Soap
Once again, no problems WTG, it felt reasonably smooth. It took me a bit of time to build the lather for the second pass, but it scraped again. No nicks this time, but plenty of irritation. I didn’t do as much touching up, and that could be felt in the end result, which was patchy; in some places more like sandpaper, in others fairly smooth.
Not a bad blade, and with the first one, while it wasn’t the closest, I didn’t pick up any nicks. The second, perhaps because I was going over some areas a few times, resulted in some irritation and nicks. The end result was generally pretty good, but it wasn’t the best way to get there I felt.
