Another Blade from the big name.
1st blade > 1st shave
Cella Shaving Soap
No tugging, but I did pick up a few small nicks. Most sealed themselves before I finished, one had to wait for cold water. The finish wasn’t particularly close, but there wasn’t any real roughness either, and no irritation. So a good shave all-in-all.
1st blade > 2nd shave
Edwin Jagger Aloe Vera Shaving Soap
A nice smooth shave with only a few small nicks, all of which were sealed by some cold water. The finish was pretty close, though nowhere quite made it to BBS. My neck was better than usual. This was balanced with some irritation on my top lip. A very good shave though.
1st blade > 3rd shave
Dove Pro Moisture Sensitive Shave Cream
No tugging, no nicks and I was left irritation free. The blade did get clogged a fair bit but that’s not its fault. The finish was generally smooth, but there were a couple of areas of roughness. Nowhere was especially close but a respectable shave.
2nd blade > 1st shave
RazoRock XX Shaving Soap
No tugging and it felt to be cleaving through my stubble with ease. I had to do a lot of touch-ups though and that left me with a lot of nicks, some of which survived to the end, and also irritation. The end result was pretty good, but sore.
2nd blade > 2nd shave
Vitos ‘Green’ Shaving Soap
No problems with it slicing through the stubble, but I picked up plenty of nicks and was left with irritation on my top lip and neck. Most nicks were sealed before I finished or by cold water, but one at least made it all the way to the end. Otherwise the finish was pretty good, with little in the way of roughness.
2nd blade > 3rd shave
Kiehl’s White Eagle Brushless Shave Cream
Smooth throughout, but I did pick up a few nicks. Most were sealed by cold water. The finish wasn’t the best, but I do fewer passes with brushless creams so par for the course. It got clogged a fair bit and I had to manually clean it by the end.
2nd blade > 4th shave
Phoenix and Beau Spitfire Shaving Soap
I could feel a bit of sharpness on the first pass, but it sliced clean through and there was no tugging or irritation. I did pick up a couple of tiny nicks, but they sealed themselves. End result was generally close although I had a few patches of resistance ATG. A good shave though.
Another from the seemingly endless array of Gillette blades. It’s packaged similarly to the Silver Blue, so I assume it’s from the same stable (appears to be Russian-made), but this wasn’t up to that blade in terms of performance.
It was sharp enough to give me plenty of nicks and irritation if I went over the same area too much, but I had to repeat passes because it didn’t do a good job of cleaving stubble on a single pass.
That said, I didn’t get any tugging and the end results were generally positive. Though none were top drawer.
So a good middle-of-the-road blade that’ll get the job done but not the smoothest and nor does it offer the closest shave. Pricing seems to reflect that too.
