I thought I was taking a bit of gamble, even at half price, but looking further I found it’s made by a company that churns out product for many bigger names.

Groomed is a product made by The Real Shaving Co. (AKA Creightons) and comes in a plastic jar (which even has the RSC logo on the side). Looks like it’s exclusive to Asda (that’s what their website says at least). I think I loaded too much product initially, so it took a while to get a good lather, but I got there eventually. After my first pass I did notice it didn’t leave my face feeling very slick, but after a wash down at the end it was. It has a nice fruity, citrus smell, very fresh and it lingered well, even after a post-shave shower. I was largely nick-free and, aside from a few patches, it left me pretty smooth and soft.
Used with: Personna Platinum Chrome Super Stainless
A nice smooth shave, even around my mouth (though I picked up a couple of nicks from trying too hard). Again, a nice, strong smell and a slick finish. I tried this as the shave after Truefitt & Hill Authentic No. 10 (also by Creightons) and, while the No. 10 was in front, it was close, and this costs less than half the price (plus this was 2nd shave on the blade).
Used with: Rapira Super Stainless
Despite only dipping the brush into the tub, I think I overloaded on product as it took a while to get a good lather. Once there, it was thick and cushioning though, leaving a nice slick residue after each pass. Despite that, the blade seemed to scrape rather than slice and I picked up a half-dozen nicks. It resulted in a close shave, in places, and a nice soft finish though. Not my best shave experience, but still a fairly good end result.
Used with: Voskhod Teflon (2nd shave)
Again, it was easy to get a nice thick lather and build it up. It seemed to provide good lubrication and certainly felt slick between passes. It left me with a soft finish that was very smooth in places, but not particularly consistent. I did pick a up a few nicks and some irritation though. A pretty good shave, but not the best experience.
Used with: Gillette Rubie Platinum Plus (1st shave)
I face lathered, building a thick, lubricating covering in no time. Slick between passes, I didn’t feel any harshness with the blade, although I did pick up a couple of nicks. I seemed to spend less time touching up after my second pass. The end result was a great shave, smooth both with and against the grain.
Not so keen on the smell, but you can’t argue with the small amount it takes to produce a good thick lather, or the ease to build it. Seems to provide good cushioning too, and at a great price (if you can find it).
