Kiss My Face Peaceful Patchouli Shaving Cream

Not a well-known brand in the shave community and the only cream in a pump dispenser I’ve seen.

Used with: The Bluebeards Revenge blades (2nd shave)

I soaked my badger brush and scooped out a good amount of cream. It took some effort to get a decent coating for my first pass. When I started lathering for my second pass it had almost vanished from the brush and I got some more cream. For touch-ups I was reduced to extracting what was left in the brush. Slickness wasn’t great for the first two passes, but was better when I treated it like a brushless cream for my finishing pass. I picked up a few nicks, but they were sealed by cold water. Aside from the usual trouble-spots my neck was good, pretty close and fairly smooth. No problems WTG on my face. ATG wasn’t bad either with minimal resistance aside from one patch of heavier stuff. Post shave feel was soft but dry. There is a slight fragrance to it, slightly floral at a push, but so weak as to be practically non-existent. I don’t recall it during the shave. A good shave.

Used with: Gillette Silver Blue (3rd shave)

I opted for my boar brush this time, scooping out a generous dollop of cream before lathering on my face. I had a good coating for my first pass, but almost nothing for the subsequent passes as the lather vanished. I squeezed what I could out of the brush and that provided a pretty good amount of slickness to work with. My neck was very good. I had some roughness in the usual places, but it was less at my jawline than is typical. No problems WTG on my face. ATG wasn’t the smoothest, nowhere got close to BBS, but there was no significant roughness. Post shave feel was very good, though perhaps a little dry. I don’t recall the fragrance at all. Another good shave.

Used with: Rapira Platinum Lux (4th shave)

I used my synthetic brush to work up a lather. I was so disappointed with the initial paste I scooped more cream out of the sample pot. That gave me a good lather for the first pass, barely a coating for the second and about enough for touch-ups. Slickness didn’t impress and I picked up a few small nicks. They were sealed by the time I got to cold water. My neck was average at best. Apart from a patch on my chin, WTG was good on my face. There was plenty of resistance ATG, borderline roughness in a few places. Post shave feel was unimpressive. I did pick up the fragrance, it’s not unpleasant but isn’t for me. An average shave.

Used with: Croma Diamant Stainless (1st shave)

I didn’t have a lot of cream left but I wanted to try it brushless so I scooped out as much as I could and smoothed it over my face. It clogged the blade a fair bit and wasn’t very comfortable on the first pass. Adding water much improved the slickness and I was nick-free. I didn’t have enough to do as many touch-ups as I wanted, but completed the shave fine. My neck was okay, but my jawline was left very rough. It wasn’t very close WTG on my face. ATG it was uneven, there was some roughness but in other places it pretty good. Post shave feel was okay, but a bit dry. I don’t recall the fragrance. A varied shave.

First off, I only did four shaves with this cream (and the last was a stretch) because I had to use so much on each shave I simply ran out. I had to go back to get more on several of the shaves because the lather from what I had was so disappointing.

To be fair, the instructions suggest you just use wet hands to lather. The fact that it comes in a pump dispenser — a first of any cream I’ve seen — suggests this should probably be used brushless. Its performance certainly backed that up.

With plenty of water it provides pretty good slickness, though I’m not sure about protection as I did pick up a few nicks on each shave. Glycerin features pretty high on the ingredients list, which is the likely reason.

The end result was generally only adequate, at best. Although described as 4-in-1 (rarely a good sign of quality in my experience) I didn’t find it gave me much in the way of moisturisation post shave. The fragrance was also lacking. Even when looking for it I was barely able to discern it.

If all you want is a quick shave, this will allow you to get one, and for not a lot of money — although given the extra I had to use it’s far from perfect. If you want to get a quality shave though, look elsewhere.
