My first soap from Australia.
Used with: Gillette 7 O’Clock Super Platinum (4th shave)
I pressed some of the sample into a container (not an easy feat as it’s not very malleable), before loading dry for thirty seconds using my synthetic brush. I had tons of lather, way more than I needed for my usual passes. Slickness was middle-of-the-road and I picked up a ton of tiny nicks, largely due to me going over some areas a lot of times. Apart from the usual trouble-spots, my neck was very good. No problems WTG on my face. I had plenty of resistance ATG but no actual roughness. Post shave feel was soft but dry. I got a whiff of the fragrance as I pressed the sample but nothing during the shave that I recall. Just about a very good shave.
Used with: Rapira Platinum Lux (3rd shave)
I soaked the sample alongside my boar brush before loading for the usual thirty seconds. I was able to generate plenty of suds and a good first coating of lather. The second was much thinner and airy. I didn’t have a huge amount left for touch-ups, but enough. Slickness didn’t stand out but I didn’t pick up any nicks. Aside from some roughness in the usual trouble-spots, my neck was pretty good. Pretty smooth but not the closest it’s been. My face was good WTG. ATG there was some resistance and the odd patch of roughness, but was generally okay other than that. Post shave feel was soft but a little dry. The fragrance is pleasant, not sure how to describe it. It’s not especially strong though. I got a whiff as I bloomed it and when I put my nose to the sample, but I don’t recall it during the shave. A pretty good shave.
Used with: Gillette 7 O’Clock Super Platinum (2nd shave)
I was worried the sample had dwindled too much to provide a decent lather, but after soaking it, I loaded for thirty seconds with my synthetic brush and had more than enough for my usual routine. I don’t recall it being particularly slick and I picked up a few nicks, a couple of which were significant. Although not perfect, my neck generally felt smooth. I paid extra attention to my trouble-spots and that paid off with their roughness being lessened. Very good WTG on my face. ATG there was the usual resistance, a bit more than that in some places, but this was balanced by a few areas that went close to BBS. Post shave feel was pretty average. Opening the container I got a whiff of the fragrance, but I didn’t register it during the shave. A very good shave.
Used with: Personna Q-Ball Platinum Plus (2nd shave)
I pressed some more of my sample into the container before wetting it and loading for thirty seconds using my synthetic brush. I was worried I wouldn’t load enough as it scooted around while I swirled, but I ended up with tons of lather. The slickness didn’t stand out but I was left nick-free and without irritation. The finish on my neck was very good, with the only hint of roughness limited to the usual trouble-spots. WTG my face was smooth. ATG there was some minor resistance, and a couple of places went close to BBS. Post shave feel was soft but dry. No fragrance during the shave again. A very good shave.
Used with: Super-Max Super Platinum (1st use)
I left the remains of my sample dry and loaded with my synthetic brush. It pretty much disappeared into my brush and allowed me a decent amount of lather. Slickness didn’t impress again but I only picked up a few tiny nicks and they were sealed before I finished. Aside from the usual trouble-spots, my neck was very good. WTG my face was smooth too. There was plenty of resistance ATG, some bordering on roughness. Post shave feel was okay. I did pick up the fragrance during the shave this time. It’s not my favourite. A good shave.
I don’t think I’ve ever had a completely clear shaving soap before. I assumed that, as it looked like ice, it would be cold, but it wasn’t.
I’d never heard of this, so had no idea what to expect. It was generally positive.
Slickness wasn’t great and I often picked up nicks, but it was capable of giving me a good, close shave without irritation.
The fragrance wasn’t for me, some odd concoction, but it’s weak enough that it won’t bother you during the shave.
It’s not particularly suitable for being pressed into a container (at least, I found) but seemed to offer plenty of lather with even the faintest run-in with the brush.
I was pleasantly surprised by a soap that did a good job, but it’s not one I’d reach for over quite a few others.
