Personna Super 'Med Prep'

Another of the Personna family, and from the Super range. How will they compare?

1st blade > 1st shave
The Real Shaving Co. Sensitive Shave Cream Classic

Like the Lab Blues, these resulted in a nice, close shave. I did get a nick on my neck, and it seemed to scraping rather than slicing as I went ATG on my neck. Slightly dry top lip again.

1st blade > 2nd shave
Proraso Eucalytus & Menthol Shave Cream

A nice, smooth shave this time, resulting in a smooth finish (except on my neck, which was fine WTG, but not so good again). I picked up a couple of nicks from trying too hard touching up around my mouth, and there was again some dryness of my top lip. Other than that, a nice finish.

2nd blade > 1st shave
Arko Shave Cream

Felt sharp from the first stroke, until I adjusted, but no scraping or tugging. I did pick up a few nicks (mainly on my neck), but none that weren’t sealed by cold water. I was left with a little dryness on my top lip though. It resulted in a smooth shave, with the only rough areas around the corners of my mouth. Not quite BBS smooth, but close.

2nd blade > 2nd shave
Mitchell’s Wool Fat Shaving Soap

Nice, smooth shave throughout, and no nicks this time (the first time I’ve had a shave without at least one). It wasn’t perfect, with a few patches, but plenty of BBS areas too. A very good shave.

2nd blade > 3rd shave
Groomed Shave Cream

This one felt smooth, but I did pick up a handful of nicks, though nothing substantial. It wasn’t a perfect finish, but was largely smooth, if not BBS. Still a pretty good shave though.

2nd blade > 4th shave
Edwin Jagger Sandalwood Soap

It felt smooth throughout my use, but I still picked up quite a few nicks and some irritation. This might have been down to the soap, which didn’t leave much slickness behind after the first pass. I even had to add more product before I could get a coating for my second pass, though that was better. I was left with a few rough patches, and it wasn’t particularly smooth on my neck, but wasn’t a bad shave.

There’s some dispute as to whether these are any different from the ‘Lab Blue’ Supers. These come marked as for hospital use and I definitely found they worked better than the ‘labs’ that I tried. When these are used with the right product they seem to give great results, but it can be a bit hit-and-miss and they were far from perfect.
