Confusingly, these share a name with a different Rapira blade, but different packaging and performance.
1st blade > 1st shave
Boots Cool Cologne Lather Shave Cream
Initially the blade felt like it was tugging and I wasn’t that impressed, it settled down during use. Even with a fairly poor lather I didn’t pick up any nicks or irritation. The end result was good, but ATG wasn’t as close as with some blades I’ve used. I was surprised and pleased with how smooth my face finished up.
1st blade > 2nd shave
Arko Shave Stick
Smoother this time and again no nicks or irritation. The end result could have been smoother ATG in a few places, but was largely very good. An enjoyable and close shave.
2nd blade > 1st shave
Proraso Eucalytus & Menthol Shave Cream
The blade felt sharp when I started, but settled down to provide a smooth shave. I picked up some nicks, but they were all sealed with a splash of cold water. It wasn’t a perfect finish, with some patches, but some areas were BBS. I need to improve my technique around the corners of my mouth (one side was smooth, the other not), but otherwise a good shave.
2nd blade > 2nd shave
Omega Shaving Cream
I was concerned I didn’t have enough lather to provide sufficient cushioning on my second pass, but the blade was smooth throughout and I picked up a solitary nick. Despite the odd patch, and a little roughness on my neck, the end result was largely smooth, and BBS in some areas.
2nd blade > 3rd shave
Edwin Jagger Sandalwood Soap
I soaked the soap for a couple of days to help soften it up after it dried out, and I was able to generate a good lather, although I didn’t think it left much slickness behind, which might reflect its cushioning abilities. While the blade was smooth, I did pick up several nicks. I also had to do more touching up than usual. The finish wasn’t perfect, especially in the nooks around my mouth, but it was generally smooth, not quite BBS, but close.
2nd blade > 4th shave
Mitchell’s Wool Fat Shaving Soap
Easy to get a good thick lather, and the blade was so smooth I was concerned it wasn’t actually taking anything off. The amount of touching up I had to do would suggest it wasn’t at its sharpest, but I only got one nick despite going over several areas multiple times (and it sealed itself). The end result was definitely a bit patchy, especially on my neck. It wasn’t BBS, but above the jaw was generally smooth. Still a good shave.
A blade that gave excellent performance, even when teamed with less-than-perfect lather. It also scores highly in the value stakes (I got mine as part of a sample pack from a Russian seller on eBay). They didn’t seem to be the sharpest though, and they began to dull after a couple of shaves, with a bit more touching up required on later use.
