RazoRock Mudder Focker Shaving Soap

Another from this well-known brand, but this one contains thermal mud.

Used with: Wilkinson Sword Classic (1st shave)

I bloomed it with a small amount of water as I soaked my badger brush. Loading for thirty seconds, it was easy to build plenty of lather. Slickness felt good but it didn’t prevent me picking up a few nicks. They all sealed themselves before I finished though. My neck was pretty good, with only a couple of small areas of roughness. WTG my face was nice and smooth. ATG was okay but not especially close. Nowhere came close to BBS and I could feel resistance almost everywhere. Post shave feel was nice enough, but a little dry. The fragrance is quite relaxed but is strong enough that I picked it up throughout the shave and lingered subtly afterwards as well. I liked it. A pretty good shave.

Used with: Lord Super Stainless (2nd shave)

I sprinkled a few drops on the surface before loading for thirty seconds with my boar brush. The first pass was fine but I had to work it a lot for the second and ran out while touching up so had to rely on the what was left on my skin and some water to finish. That said, slickness felt okay and I didn’t pick up any nicks. My neck was pretty close and quite smooth except for a few rough patches, mainly along my jawline. WTG my face was good, ATG wasn’t bad either but I had some rough spots, especially around my mouth. Nowhere made it to BBS. Post shave feel wasn’t bad but a little dry. I don’t remember picking up the fragrance at all this time. It’s not particularly potent to start with and it wasn’t strong enough for me to take notice during the shave. Still a pretty good shave.

Used with: Schick Platinum (3rd shave)

I bloomed it with some water before loading for thirty seconds with my badger brush and was able to produce tons of lather. Slickness felt good and I didn’t pick any nicks. My neck had a close finish and the only roughness came along my jawline. My face, WTG, with nice and smooth. ATG was pretty impressive too, with only minor resistance. Nowhere quite made it to BBS but a few places went close. Post shave feel was fine, but not as good as the best. Again, I don’t remember registering the fragrance. It is there, if you look for it, but it’s very subtle so doesn’t stand out. A very good shave.

Used with: Feather Hi-Stainless (4th shave)

I added a bit of water to the surface and left it for a few seconds as I wet my face. Then I loaded for thirty seconds with my badger brush. Lather came without any problem and I had plenty. Slickness was okay but I picked up plenty of nicks. Most sealed themselves by the time I used cold water though. My neck was very close but with a few rough patches, especially along my jawline. WTG my face was nice and smooth. ATG was good too, but I had a few rough spots. Equally I managed BBS in a few places. Post shave feel was good. I picked up the fragrance a couple of times. It’s pleasant but quickly slides into the background. A good shave.

Used with: Gillette 7 O’Clock Super Stainless (2nd shave)

I covered it in a bit more water this time and for a bit longer. I used the run off as a pre-shave before loading for thirty seconds with my badger brush. There was lather aplenty once again. Slickness felt okay and I didn’t pick up any nicks, despite lots of touching up. My neck was very good, with only one area even hinting at roughness. My face was good WTG. It wasn’t bad ATG either, but there were a couple of places with heavier-than-expected resistance. Nowhere made it to BBS. Post shave feel wasn’t bad, but a little dry. Apart from the start, I don’t remember the fragrance, even when I inhaled part way through to try and pick it up. A very good shave.

Verdict

As with all of the RazoRock products I have tried in the past, getting this to lather was easy. A bit of water certainly helped with this one though.

Slickness wasn’t as good as some and the sharper blades highlighted some issues with cushion, but it wasn’t bad.

My view on the fragrance changed over the course of the shaves as it all but disappeared. You’d get a whiff at the start, but even that was subtle, then it would disappear. Certainly not one for those who like a hit of scent.

I wonder if the request to leave it open to dry for as long as possible dampened the power. I do the same for all my soaps though. Not that what I could pick up was unpleasant. You do get the feeling it’s the mud that is given centre stage and the scent is an afterthought.

Despite the Fuller’s Earth, I didn’t find it performed any better than other RR products or provided significantly improved post shave feel. It didn’t blow me away compared to other products either. The results of my shaves were quite varied, with none really shining.

As ever with RR, good value and a solid performance, but nothing spectacular.
