Schick Premium

Another German blade. Schick is the name used in some markets for Wilkinson Sword, owned by Energizer.

1st blade > 1st shave
Proraso Eucalyptus & Menthol Shave Cream

I wasn’t too sure about it at first, but it settled down and was fairly smooth throughout. I did pick up a couple of nicks, one a weeper (to be fair, this was during touch-up after the second pass), and some irritation on my top lip. It seemed to take a bit more going over than some of the blades I’ve used recently. While it wasn’t as smooth ATG as some, generally it was a nice and smooth end result.

1st blade > 2nd shave
Boots Cool Cologne Lather Shave Cream

The shave felt smooth throughout, but I picked up more nicks than with any recent blade I’d used, though most sealed themselves by the time I washed my face off after the second pass. Having said that, the end result was nice and smooth (not perfect ATG in some places). Again, it required a fair bit of touching up though (more comparable to other blades this time though).

2nd blade > 1st shave
Haslinger Coconut Shaving Soap

The shave was smooth, but I picked up a lot of nicks, though only on my neck. I loaded plenty and actually used lather during my touch-up stage, so that may speak to how sharp a blade it is. I still struggled to get close around my mouth and a few other areas. The rest was good, and a couple of patches even got to BBS.

2nd blade > 2nd shave
Taylor of Old Bond Street Jermyn Street Collection Shaving Cream

The blade was fine going WTG, but became ragged when I switched to ATG. This was reflected in the number of nicks I picked up. Despite the nicks, and plenty of touching up, I was still left with areas that were far from perfect. Even where it was closest it wasn’t especially close, and certainly not BBS. An average shave.

2nd blade > 3rd shave
RazoRock Don Marco Shave Soap

WTG was, once again, very smooth. It was a bit harsher ATG, but not to the point where it had me wincing (as with some). I had to do a lot of touching up to get anywhere near close in some areas, which was probably the cause for so many nicks, including a couple of weepers. The end result was largely smooth, though not especially close on my neck. Despite numerous attacks, the corners of my mouth held out, but my top lip was BBS, if a little dry.

2nd blade > 4th shave
Speick Men Shave Cream

The blade started off smooth, but I picked up nicks on my first pass (before I’d even made it to my neck). By the end of the second pass I was littered with blossoming red patches and after touching up it was a horror show. I didn’t get much slickness after the first pass, so added more product before lathering for the second, and it was much better then. Parts of my neck were very patchy, possibly down to technique, but the rest was generally good. Despite all the effort I didn’t clear out the some of the areas around my mouth, yet my cheeks were practically BBS. I had plenty of irritation though.

Generally I got good results, but at the price of a lot of work, which would suggest they weren’t too sharp, but equally I got nicked pretty well too. It seems to work best where you have plenty of cushion, but that didn’t save me entirely either. Not one I’ll be going back for more packs of.
