Super-Max Blue Diamond Blades

Super-Max Blue Diamond

Another from the Super-Max (or Supermax, never sure) line, made in India. These were the platinum coated version.

1st blade > 1st shave
Proraso Eucalyptus & Menthol Shave Cream

The blade felt smooth throughout, and I didn’t pick up any nicks or irritation. I did find I had to do more touching up than usual and that anywhere I didn’t get to was left patchy. Even where it was smooth it wasn’t too close, certainly not BBS. A passable, but average shave.

1st blade > 2nd shave
Haslinger Sheep’s Milk Shaving Soap

Although the blade was again smooth, I picked up plenty of nicks this time, plus some irritation on my top lip. That was probably the result of having to do more touch-up than usual, although my lather wasn’t too great for the second pass. In spite of the extra work, the finish was still patchy and not very close even where it was smooth.

2nd blade > 1st shave
Vulfix Old Original Sandalwood Shaving Cream

Nice and smooth throughout, although I picked up a few nicks, but they were limited to my jawline. I was irritation free though. Despite doing my usual amount of touching up, I was left a little patchy, especially on my neck. Generally not a great finish.

2nd blade > 2nd shave
Truefitt & Hill Rose Shaving Cream

The blade felt good throughout, but I did pick up a few nicks, though nothing too substantial. The finish wasn’t perfect and was decidedly patchy on my neck. It was reasonably smooth about my neck, but nowhere was close to BBS. Not a bad shave, but an average finish.

2nd blade > 3rd shave
Wickham Super Smooth Southsea Spray

No problems with the blade this time. The slickness left by the lather was as good and I didn’t pick up a single nick, a first with this blade, so cushioning was obviously good. I did a lot of touching up too. The end result was still patchy and where it was at its best it wasn’t BBS. Where it was closest it was nice and smooth though. Not a bad shave.

2nd blade > 4th shave
D. R. Harris Windsor Shaving Cream

Although the blade didn’t tug or scrape and the slickness was good, I still picked up a few nicks. I also had some irritation on my top lip. That was probably down to the amount of touching up I was forced to do. I was still left with plenty of patches though. To give it credit, where it was smooth it was close to BBS, but there were too many areas where it was ragged to call it a good shave.

Despite being at the higher end of the Super-Max line, I couldn’t get a great shave out of the blades. They were nice and smooth, with no tugging or scraping, but neither did they provide a particularly close finish, no matter how much extra work I did. Despite that, they still nicked me though, which is odd. So not a performer for me.
