A well-known high street legend, from a name not normally associated with shaving.
Used with: Bolzano Superinox (1st shave)
I squeezed a small amount onto my badger brush and it quickly turned into a thick, glossy lather. Slickness when wet was good and I didn’t pick up any nicks. My neck wasn’t bad but I had rough patches on my throat and jawline. My face was better. Smooth WTG but not that close ATG. No real patches though, but equally nowhere made it to BBS either. Not sure how to describe the fragrance, but it’s pleasant enough. It’s subtle and I picked it up a few times during the shave, but nothing to crave. A pretty good shave.
Used with: Perma Sharp Super (2nd shave)
A small amount of cream was quickly turned into a glossy lather by my boar brush, with the addition of a bit of water. Slickness when wet felt good but I did pick up a couple of nicks. My neck was generally pretty good, even along my jawline, but I did have a couple of rough patches. Above that was pretty smooth WTG but not so close ATG and nowhere made it to BBS. That’s not to say the finish was bad. Post shave feel was pretty good but not the softest and a little dry. I got a whiff of the scent at the start but it quickly disappeared into the background and I don’t remember it after that. It’s nothing off putting but not a particular plus. A good shave.
Used with: Super-Max Stainless (3rd shave)
No problems producing plenty of lather using my badger brush. Slickness when wet felt pretty good and I only picked up a solitary nick. The blade tugged all the way through the shave. My neck wasn’t especially close and I had a number of patches, especially by my jawline. My face was pretty good WTG but not especially close ATG. Plenty of rough patches too. Post shave feel was pretty average. I don’t remember picking up the scent at all. An average shave but I think that was largely down to the blade.
Used with: Super-Max Super Platinum (4th shave)
Once again, a small amount of cream was quickly converted into luscious lather by my badger brush. I don’t remember the slickness but it must have been pretty good as I only picked up a solitary nick, which sealed itself before I finished. Where it was good, my neck was very good, but it was also pretty patchy especially on my jawline. My face was nice and smooth WTG but I could feel a few rough areas ATG. Nowhere quite made it to BBS ATG. Post shave feel was good. I did get a few whiffs of the scent this time. It’s very subtle, not sure how to describe it, but it’s pleasant enough. A good, nearly very good, shave.
Used with: Personna Super ‘Lab Blue’ (3rd shave)
I opted for my boar brush this time and it easily turned a small dollop of cream into a good lather. That meant I had no problems with quantity to do my numerous passes and touch-ups. Slickness was good rather than great, but adequate enough to prevent all but a few tiny nicks. It wasn’t perfect, but generally my neck was smooth with the rougher areas limited to my jawline. My face was nice and smooth WTG but it wasn’t quite as good ATG. A couple of areas made it to BBS though. Post shave feel was adequate. Not bad but not as good as with some others. Again the fragrance was subtle, to the point I didn’t notice it during the shave. A very good shave.
I bought this as it was on sale, plus had free delivery. It made an already well-priced product a steal. Part of the appeal was it’s excellent reputation though, as I was interested to see what it was like.
I have to say that it earns that reputation and I found it lathered very easily, gave good slickness and protection and provided a good shave, especially when paired with the right blade.
It didn’t match some in slickness or others in post shave feel. The scent also leaves a little to be desired. It’s not bad, but not crave-worthy. Neither is it very strong (so it’s hard to class it as a negative).
For the price the performance is hard to beat, let alone complain about. No hesitation in recommending you give it a try.
