The Real Shaving Co. Moisturising Shave Cream

Essentially identical to the Sensitive version. Slight difference in ingredients, what about performance?

Used with: Astra Superior Platinum (1st shave)

I face lathered with the cream, it seemed to take a bit of time to build to the right consistency (maybe because it’s concentrated), but didn’t need any more water than was on the brush and my face. From the first pull the razor was tugging though. Lathering for the second pass required some water. I picked up a couple of nicks around the corners of my mouth (to be fair, I was paying them extra attention). It didn’t seem any more moisturising than the sensitive version I tried, in fact, I didn’t find it gave much glide at all. I had a bit of razor burn as well, though that could have been down to me. The smell is similar to the sensitive too, a subtle men’s cologne/shower gel scent. Aside from some patches, it did leave me with a smooth shave though.

Used with: Gillette Rubie Platinum Plus (2nd shave)

Face lathering, I got a good lather and a nice shave, with slickness between passes and plenty for two coatings. I picked up a few nicks, and had to do a bit of touching up, but the end result was nice and smooth, and it was a much more positive experience than my previous uses of either RSC creams.

Used with: Wilkinson Sword (3rd shave)

I face lathered with a shaken dry brush and was quickly able to build a good lather, and had more than enough for a second pass. Still not too keen on the scent, which seems stronger than practically everything else I own. The blade tugged a bit, far more so when I switched to ATG. I ended up with a few nicks and I had to do a fair bit of touching up. The end result was very patchy and fairly average.

Used with: Shark Super Chrome (2nd shave)

Building the lather was fast and easy again, though I wasn’t sure I had enough for a second pass. A bit of work and I was able to build it up though. I didn’t feel much slickness after the passes, some, but certainly not on a par with other soaps/creams I’ve tried. The blade tugged and scraped, making it a less than pleasant experience, but the end result was very smooth all over.

Used with: Personna Super ‘Lab Blue’ (3rd shave)

Again, I lathered on my face. I found it to be quite thick this time, and I was tempted to add a drop of water. I didn’t, and had plenty for a couple of passes. It felt like I needed more touching up than usual, going over the key areas several times. I picked up a few nicks, probably as a result, though most were sealed by cold water. The end result was smooth all over, but not as close as with some blades, and not BBS.

An average performer like its brother, and I don’t think I noticed any extra moisturising from the cocoa butter. The fragrance is equally potent. They do the job, and at a low price, but not something I’d reach for.
