Almond seems to be a popular choice for inclusion in shaving products, especially as a scent, so I was intrigued to try this.
Used with: Personna Platinum (3rd shave)
I squeezed a decent amount onto a finger then applied to my face before building with my badger brush. I used a fair bit of water to help thin it out and had plenty of lather for two full passes and touch ups, which are usually more than a full pass. Slickness felt good, but it didn’t stop me picking up a load of nicks, though none serious. My neck was generally good but had a few patches, above my jawline it was fantastic, with large swaths of BBS skin. Nice post shave feel too, though maybe not up to the best of the rest. The scent was strong with marzipan when I first applied it, but that quickly dissipated and I didn’t get so much as a whiff through the rest of the shave or after. A great shave.
Used with: Gillette 7 O’Clock Sharp Edge (1st shave)
I opted for my boar brush this time and again I needed a bit of water to help thin it out. Slickness was again fairly good, but I still picked up a few small nicks. My neck was left a little patchy. Above my jaw was better, but far from perfect, with nowhere quite making it to BBS, though some places were close. Post shave feel was fine, but not up to the best. I got that strong marzipan scent to start with as well as a couple of subtle hits when re-applying. Not a bad shave, but closer to average than anything else.
Used with: Schick Premium (2nd shave)
Back to my badger brush and I emptied the sachet. I only needed a small amount of water to thin it out and had plenty of lather for my usual process. Slickness was good again, but I still picked up a couple of tiny nicks. My neck was pretty good, but still had to the odd patch, while my jawline was a little rough. Above that was smooth, with the only patch being around my mouth. Some parts made it to BBS, but most didn’t. Post shave wasn’t as good as some, but wasn’t bad. Again, I got that strong hit of marzipan when I started, but it quickly disappeared. A good shave.
Another solid performer from T&H, if a little unremarkable. I’m not a particular fan of almonds, certainly not of marzipan, which this smells strongly of, but I didn’t find it to be discouraging and the scent quickly vanishes when you begin to shave, so I wouldn’t let it worry you. It did the job well enough, but wasn’t something I was hankering for more of when I was done.
