Another sandalwood cream, although this did make me doubt the definition of sandalwood.
Used with: Polsilver Super Iridium (4th shave)
I used a good sized blob of cream and worked it up with my badger brush. It produced plenty of lather, which stayed around throughout the shave. Slickness felt good, but I picked up a ton of nicks and some irritation on my top lip and neck. The finish was a bit patchy on my neck, but on my face some areas made BBS. In fact more areas that any recent shave I can remember (although that obviously came at a price). Post shave feel was pretty good too. The fragrance is very nice. Completely unlike any other sandalwood I have. It’s not as sweet as the TOBS version, it’s much thicker and full bodied, there’s certainly more too it. It smells more like a cologne. A nice shave, but not sure it was worth the burning.
Used with: Rapira Platinum Lux (3rd shave)
I made sure I had plenty before loading with my boar brush. It still felt like I had to work it more than I should to get a good coating for each pass. Slickness was fine and I didn’t pick up any nicks, despite the blade feeling a little ragged to begin with. My neck was generally smooth with some patches on my jawline. Above that was good, but I didn’t quit clear out all the nooks and crannies. There was the odd patch of BBS, but that was unusual. Generally smooth though. The fragrance isn’t sandalwood, it just smells like an aftershave, a pleasant but fairly generic cologne. Nice enough, but it feels misleading. Post shave feel wasn’t bad, but not up to the best if I’m hypercritical. A good shave though.
Used with: Vokshod (1st shave)
I emptied the sachet so had plenty of cream to load my badger brush. I used some water to help thin it out but it still clogged the razor on my first pass. Slickness was good but it couldn’t prevent me picking up quite a few nicks. The end result was a little patchy in places, mainly my neck and jaw, but also around my mouth. A couple of places managed BBS, elsewhere not quite. It’s a very strong fragrance that lingers well. I quite like it, although I’m not sure I’d class it as sandalwood. A good shave.
I’d previously been trying to get four shaves out of each 5ml sachet, but dropping to three increases the amount of cream for each and stops it dissipating during the second pass. It provided a good shave, but never quite made it to top tier. A solid performer though. The fact that T&H describe this scent as ‘a fresh update to a subtle classic’ tells you why this doesn’t smell like any other sandalwood. It seems to be the musk that comes through the strongest for me. Not that I didn’t enjoy it, just be prepared for something very different. Might be worth trying before buying at the price too.
