Can this cream from T&H live up to its name?
Used with: Shark Super Stainless (4th shave)
I used my badger brush and probably too little cream. I was concerned with the paste-like layer I first painted on. With some work I got it to a good lather for the first pass but the second was a bigger struggle and I had very little for touch-ups. That lack of finishing was obvious in the final result, with patches all over the place. Where it was smooth it was good though, but it never got close to BBS. Post shave feel wasn’t bad either. Despite being ‘unscented’ the fragrance is heavy on lavender, so if you’re not a fan (I’m not), it’s something to bear in mind. A satisfactory shave.
Used with: Rapira Swedish Supersteel (2nd shave)
I used more cream this time and was able to build up a good amount of lather fairly quickly. I even had to add some water to thin it out. Slickness was good but I still picked up a couple of nicks during touching up. Below my jawline, the finish was a bit patchy, above it was superb. It was BBS in some places, though far from everywhere. Post shave feel was good too. Again, I got that blast of lavender, but it soon disappeared into the background. A very good shave.
Used with: Wilkinson Sword Classic (2nd shave)
I emptied my sachet this time, ensuring plenty of cream to lather up. I went with my boar brush for a change. I added some water during the process but it was still thick enough to clog my blade. Slickness felt good but it wasn’t enough to prevent me from picking up a ton of nicks and some irritation. The finish was good, not perfect on my neck, but pretty good on my jaw and great above it. It didn’t make BBS anywhere, but was nice and smooth. Post shave feel was pretty good too. I didn’t notice the fragrance as much this time.
On the plus side, this was easy to lather, producing a great coating with ease. Slickness was good, but protection didn’t seem to be up with the best and I picked up more nicks than I’d expect. It also didn’t start to break down, which I found with other T&H creams. Post shave feel was nice. Although classed as unscented, the lavender really comes through, and I’m not a fan, so that’s a negative. Finally, there’s the cost. As it doesn’t have any added fragrance, you’d expect this to come in cheaper. In fact, it sells for the same (high) price as the other T&H creams (No. 10 excluded). So, although it performed better, I’ve scored it the same. There are creams that perform as well, if not better, for a lot less money available.
